Jeff Silverman is a seasoned producer, engineer, songwriter, and former Motown staff writer, boasting nearly 40 years of experience in the music industry. Known as Jeff Alan, he penned and performed the memorable theme song for “Losin’ It,” featuring Tom Cruise and Shelley Long. Throughout his illustrious career, Jeff has collaborated with renowned artists like Rick Springfield and The Allman Brothers. His extensive discography showcases a variety of film and TV placements, along with captivating covers that span from the 70s to the present day. Jeff proudly serves as a voting member of NARAS, SAG-AFTRA, and NPN.

From The Vault II — The Branches Series

Jeff Silverman’s latest work brings nearly five decades of songwriting, production, collaboration and personal history together in From The Vault II: The Lost Chords and Stories and its 15-track companion album, From The Vault II (Songs From The Lost Chords). The full-color memoir opens Jeff’s personal archives to reveal the stories, people and unexpected connections behind the songs, while the album brings those stories to life through recordings featuring an extraordinary group of artists including Marcie Free, Stan Bush, Kenny Cetera, James Christian, Nick Gilder, Rick Springfield and others.

At the heart of the project is “The World Is Better Dreaming,” featuring vocalist Chris Taylor and co-written by Jeff and Anthony Snape. Inspired by Jeff’s mother, Barbara, during her battle with cancer, the deeply personal song became the first branch of a much larger idea: VAULT II — The Branches Series, where songs lead to stories, stories reveal connections, and each branch opens another part of the creative journey.

From The Vault (A Collection of Works by Rick Springfield and Jeff Silverman)

Jeff’s long-term collaboration with Rick Springfield led to the release of “From The Vault (A Collection of Works by Rick Springfield and Jeff Silverman)” in 2010 on Frontiers Records. The album consists of consists of 13 tracks, (some previously unreleased demos) originally recorded between 1986 and 1999, that Jeff has digitally re-mastered, giving the audience an entirely new listening experience. Many of the tracks, such as “Dancin’ on the Edge of the World”, “Right Planet, Wrong World”, “You Write the Book”, “Dream in Colour” , “Somewhere” and “Religion of the Heart” are previously unreleased versions of the songs. Others such as “Monkey”, “Love Receiver” and “My Depression” were later re-recorded for Springfield’s albums.

Innocence of Love

“Innocence of Love,” Jeff’s new single, was originally written and recorded in the early 80’s, but was never released. The song was “retrieved from Jeff’s vault” and has been remastered and recently placed in the movie AVERAGE JOE (The Unwavering True Story), courtesy of GPS Songs. Jeff wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music for this track with the renowned Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, The Bangles, Los Lobos, The Corrs, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney), whom he met in the late 70s while working at Sound City Studios.

How Did You Slip Away

“How Did You Slip Away,” Jeff’s follow up single to “Innocence of Love,” was also originally written and recorded in the early 80’s, and never released. This is another song “retrieved from Jeff’s vault” and has been remastered. Jeff wrote the lyrics and music and produced, engineered and mixed this track. He also performed vocals, guitars, keyboards, bass and drums.

Jeff continues to produce, engineer and write for his Palette Music • Studio • Productions with a specific focus on Dolby Atmos production, mixing and mastering. He is also working on “From The Vault II” which will be a collection of unreleased music from the same era. “Innocence Of Love” is the first release from this collection.
